Publications

We’ve been telling stories since forever – it’s part of being human. Today, we bring those stories to life through carefully crafted publications that connect, inform, and inspire.

Celebrating an iconic piece of Auckland infrastructure – and the people who made it happen.

The Waterview Tunnel isn’t just any tunnel, it’s the biggest and most complex piece of road infrastructure Aotearoa’s ever built. Stretching 2.5km through twin tubes, it was the final piece that connected State Highways 20 and 16, completing the Western Ring Route and giving Aucklanders a smarter, faster way to get around without cutting through the CBD.

Design that reflects the hard work

The Legacy Book was our chance to showcase the project’s scale, innovation, and impact, not just on the transport network, but on the communities it connects. Every design choice was intentional. We leaned into a clean, confident aesthetic that echoed the tunnel’s mechanical precision and engineering smarts.

Typography was carefully considered to sit beautifully alongside powerful imagery. The layout uses generous white space, bold photo spreads, and a balanced rhythm of text and visuals, drawing readers in and letting the story breathe.

Telling the human story

This wasn’t just about steel and concrete, it was about people. The Legacy Book honours the whānau behind the project, told through stunning photography and thoughtful design that brings their stories to the forefront. From engineers to diggers, planners to locals, this is their legacy too.

More than a record of what was built, it’s a tribute to what’s possible when innovation, collaboration, and heart come together on a project that shaped Auckland’s future.

PORTGroup have crafted over 20 project legacy publications over the past one and a half decades.
